A few thoughts from my workshop by the sea:

I'm Silke, the maker behind Salt Sand Sunshine, and this little Journal is where I'll be sharing the stories that don't always fit on a product page.

Of course you'll find bags on my website, but behind every bag is something much bigger.

Sometimes it's a sail that has travelled for years before arriving at my workshop.

Sometimes it's a sunny afternoon spent cutting sailcloth in the garden because the piece is simply too large for my sewing room.

Sometimes it's a market where I spend the day chatting with visitors who are fascinated that an old sail can become a handbag.

And sometimes it's just me, a cup of tea beside the sewing machine, wondering whether I've measured something correctly... before measuring it another two times just to be sure!

Living on the Dorset coast inspires almost everything I make.

The sea, the changing weather, beach walks, sailing boats and that wonderful feeling of being outdoors all find their way into my work in one way or another.

This Journal isn't really about selling bags.

It's about sharing the stories behind them.

So whether you're curious about sailcloth, enjoy handmade craftsmanship or simply love the coast as much as I do, I hope you'll enjoy following along.
