Why Sailcloth?

Every sail has a story. Here's why we love giving them a new adventure.

From Sea to Shore

Before becoming a bag, every piece of sailcloth has already lived a life at sea.

Powered by wind, weather and adventure, these sails have travelled countless miles before reaching my Dorset workshop.

Rather than ending up forgotten or discarded, they are carefully cleaned and transformed into practical, one-of-a-kind bags and accessories.

It's a way of preserving a little piece of sailing history while creating something useful for everyday life.

Every Sail Tells a Different Story

One of the things I love most about sailcloth is that every piece is different.

Original stitching, sail numbers, patches and signs of wear become part of the finished design.

These aren't imperfections — they're reminders of the sail's previous journey and part of what makes every Salt Sand Sunshine piece unique. No two bags will ever be exactly the same.

Handmade in Dorset

Every bag is handmade by me in Dorset.

After selecting the sailcloth, each piece is carefully cut, sewn and finished individually.

I combine reclaimed sailcloth with rescued fabrics, colourful linings and practical details to create bags designed for real life — whether that's a trip to the beach, a day out or everyday adventures.

A More Sustainable Choice

Giving old sails a new purpose naturally helps reduce waste, but sustainability isn't the whole story.

For me, it's about making something beautiful and useful from materials that still have plenty of life left in them.

Every finished piece represents craftsmanship, character and a second chance for materials that deserve to be enjoyed for many years to come.
