Upcycled Sailcloth Toiletry Bags – One-of-a-Kind Washbags

Even the odd-shaped pieces of a sail deserve another adventure. ⛵
These one-of-a-kind toiletry bags started life as the leftover pieces and offcuts from larger Salt Sand Sunshine projects — those slightly awkward sections of reclaimed sailcloth that were simply too good to throw away.
Rather than waste them, I've worked with the shapes I had. The result is three completely individual washbags, each retaining original markings, stitching, creases and character from its former life as a sail.
All three are made from reclaimed white sailcloth, have a zipped opening and are lined inside with white cotton fabric. Their different shapes and original sail details mean no two are alike.
 
🔴 Red Zip – Black Sail Marking
White reclaimed sailcloth featuring part of the sail's original bold black lettering, finished with a contrasting red zip.
A loop made from original sail rope has been added at the side for carrying or hanging.

⚫ Black Zip – Black Sail Marking
A longer, slimline washbag made from white sailcloth with striking original black lettering.
Finished with a black zip and black webbing handle. Inside is a small detachable zipped pouch, secured with a hook — handy for keeping smaller items separate.

💛 Yellow Zip – Blue Sail Number
Definitely the quirky one of the three!
This washbag follows the original shape of the sailcloth offcut, giving it an unusual asymmetric design. It features a large section of original blue sail numbering, a bright yellow zip and a blue rope carrying loop.
Inside you'll also find a small detachable zipped pouch, attached by a hook.

A little about reclaimed sailcloth
These bags have been made from genuine used sailcloth. The material has been washed before making, but original marks, stitching, creases and signs of its previous life may remain.
That's not something I try to hide — it's precisely what makes each piece unique.
Handmade in Dorset from sailcloth that still had plenty of life left in it.
