All Elin and her Partner Will wanted to do was go on a nice Winter Holiday in Switzerland to see her Brother and his Fiancée for the first time after 5 years. That´s when it starts to get fearful and gets you sucked in. The Thriller "The Sanatorium" by Sarah Pearse had me from the first page. I remembered it being intense and hard to put aside, but having re-read the book just over a long weekend made me realise how much I was in there, with the main character Elin from the UK. She is a Police Officer on leave and had been invited to come to Switzerland with her Partner Will to
celebrate the engagement of her Brother Isaac and Partner Laure.
She can feel the unease of the place instantly, the chill in the place that something isn´t quite right and sure enough it starts.
Sarah Pearse has written this book in such a great way, that makes you feel with the main Character Elin from the start, you can see things through her eyes, but also can imagine what the Hotel is like and the building might have been like, the people around them.
As the story progresses I kept thinking about who might have been the intruder and then changed my mind and again had my money on someone else until the end it is someone completely different, unexpected.
In some books you know what the end will be like and this one is very much the opposite. It grabs you and all you can do is run with Elin and try to solve the crime.
I like her stubbornness, but it shocks me to what extend she is caught in her own history and how sick it makes her and how much she is doubting herself, but she keeps on fighting and that is great!

What is also very interesting is to learn about the old Sanatorium, what it used to be and what people have experienced there because their male family member had decided it would be a good idea.
Not havening had enough time to do a proper research on this, I still believe that it has happened, as I heard about those types of clinics before and it is again shocking to learn what men used to do women as the women didn´t have enough rights. BUT that´s a completely different story and nothing to do with this book.
All in all, I loved this book. As I said it grabbed me right from the start, I was able to imagine myself there with the main character and I was able to switch off the world around me. I felt with them and breathed with them and again there were these moments when I just couldn´t continue reading, because the sheer thrill and speed throughout was exhausting.
This book is perfect for you, if you love a good Thriller want to try to solve the mystery while reading and have a weekend to spare.
